Fixing a system is more then just pressing "repair" somewhere. They're pretty standard stuff and when they break you need to fix them. Your ship has all kinds of systems you can place in there and they all have their purpose. You can see your ship's systems over here, your power output over there, your local map up there and check your email back there. You switch between consoles with different systems on them and zoom into each one to use it. When you're in your ship, you are in your ship.
